I could watch this a hundred times and still see really cool details — no super high tech production process here, just good people working really hard giving it their best. The results show just how well Mr Eklund has his act together. I saw this car at the july 2000 SOC in New York — fresh off the peak, the car still had Colorado dirt on it. Sounded absolutely fantastic, and Per was ever the great car guy showing anyone who asked his wonderful creation and explaining how it was all done with a $100k check from the General, and basically the same frame as his rallycross champion cars. At the close of the SOC on Sunday Per was busy removing engine control systems and the electronic dash cluster because they were spares for the rallycross cars. I was asking him questions when I noticed he was in need of a few more tools — so he asked me if I knew anyone with a few tools he could borrow. I found him a toolbox of wrenches and then he put me to work helping him strip the Race car of valuable parts. He told me that when they went thru the pre race inspection they discovered that the roof panel had to be steel, unfortunately theirs was stamped out of aluminum at the Trollhattan plant. A few calls to Saab parts showed that there were two 3-door non-sunroof roof panels in the USA, and one of them was at the Saab dealer in Colorado Springs, just down the road. They also had problems with fuel because their european race fuel was stuck at the port in customs. Because of the fuel problems Mr. Eklund said he did not get too much practice time, but all the other drivers told him what to watch out for. Truly an awesome effort.
So, obvious question…where is this car now?

Missing link for Pikes peak?
The video should appear at the top of the page. No?
No video and no link 🙁
OK. The video appeared on all three browsers that I checked, but if some aren’t seeing it then fair enough.
I’ve changed the format of the post. Hopefully the video is appearing for everyone now.
